I came across a few items of high school memorabilia the other day and tucked inside of my diploma were these two programs from Class Night and Graduation. What are your memories of graduation?

I have just bits and pieces of memories from these two nights. I wish I could remember the band and chorus numbers, but those are completely gone. I remember more about the marching practice than I do about actually marching in in front of all of our families. I do remember it being hot in the gym and hearing people fanning themselves with their programs, but that could have been any program we attended or participated in there. At graduation, I had brought a small battery operated fan and shared it with those sitting near me. All was well until Jo-Ann Mitchell got it caught in her hair. It took us quite a few minutes (and several stern looks from Mr. Viola) to stop laughing and settle back down to serious business.

And I remember Tom, Duddy, Dave and I getting together with Mrs. Howe and learning our speeches so we wouldn't have to use notes. The night we actually gave them is kind of a blur, but I was very glad when it was over and I could sit back down. Though I do it quite often now, public speaking is still difficult for me. What I learned from Mrs. Howe thirty-five years ago has helped me though - being well prepared makes all the difference.

Did you know we had Commencement Committees? I didn't, even though some of my friends were on them. What did they do? And what is that last committee - Service? Winnie, you were on one of these. What was it all about? I just thought the class officers and (mostly) Mr. Viola did everything.

Anyway, here's a picture of the school from our diplomas. Curious that it's a picture from before the pool was added which makes it about 6 years old?

They must have had lots of them made and wanted to use them up.
